Adani Green Energy Secures 1,250 MW Energy Storage Project From UPPCL

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s leading renewable energy company, announced today that it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for a 1,250 MW Pumped Hydro Storage Project (PSP).

The project, located in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, is set to have a minimum lifespan of 40 years and is scheduled for completion within the next six years.

Advancing India’s Clean Energy Vision

As India further pushes toward its clean energy targets, the need for large-scale energy storage solutions has become crucial. These projects help integrate renewable energy into the grid, ensuring the supply of round-the-clock clean energy.

Adani Green Energy is taking significant steps in this direction by expanding its focus beyond solar, wind, and hybrid projects to include energy storage solutions.

Aiming For 5 GW Of Hydro Pumped Storage By 2030

Adani Green Energy plans to add 5 GW of hydro pumped storage capacity by 2030. The company has already commenced construction on several major hydro pumped storage projects, including 500 MW on the Chitravathi river in Andhra Pradesh, 1,500 MW at Tarali in Maharashtra, and 1,800 MW at Gandikota in Andhra Pradesh.

The Role Of Hydro Pumped Storage Technology

Hydro Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) recognize for their cost-effectiveness, scalability, and environmental sustainability.

This technology further works by pumping water to a height using solar energy during the day and then releasing it at night to generate power when demand peaks. Hydro PSP is a time-tested and domestically available solution, offering clean, safe, and efficient energy storage.

Enhancing Grid Stability And Power Management

Hydro PSP further contributes significantly to grid stability by reducing peak load and providing backup power generation. It also plays an essential role in frequency control and energy management, positioning it as a vital component of a robust and reliable power infrastructure.

With this initiative, Adani Green Energy continues to reinforce its commitment to advancing India’s clean energy future.
