Actress Sumi Borah Uncooperative In Multi-Crore Trading Scam Probe

Assamese actress Sumi Borah, a key figure in a multi-crore online trading scam, is reportedly not cooperating with the police investigation. A senior police official stated that Borah has been uncooperative since her arrest. She either cries during interrogation or avoids questions. Despite her complaints of illness, medical exams have deemed her fit.

Borah’s five-day police custody ends on Tuesday, and she will appear in court later in the day. Authorities plan to request an additional seven days of custody.

During the investigation, police uncovered information from Borah’s husband, Tarkik Borah, and his brother, Amlan Borah, who have been in custody since last week. They revealed that two policemen, Shobhanjyoti Kurmi and Chandan Nath, allegedly assisted Borah and her husband in evading capture after the scam came to light. Kurmi and Nath are accused of helping destroy evidence related to the scam.

Police have filed four cases against Kurmi and Nath and are interrogating them. Tarkik Borah’s custody also ends on Tuesday, and he will be presented in court.

The Rs 2,200 crore scam was exposed after the arrest of its alleged mastermind, Bishal Phukan, in Dibrugarh. Authorities say Phukan used Borah’s connections in the Assamese film industry to attract clients for fraudulent online trading. Following Phukan’s arrest, Borah and her husband went into hiding before surrendering to the police last week.
