The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has sanctioned the elevation of several senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to Special Director and Special Director General positions across India’s central security and intelligence agencies.
Shri Zaki Ahmad (IPS: UP, 1993), currently serving as Inspector General in the CRPF, assumes the role of Special Director General, CRPF, with tenure lasting until his superannuation on 31 March 2028 or until further orders.
Alongside him, Shri Raja Srivastava (IPS: UP, 1994) and Shri Amit Kumar (IPS: BH, 1994), both serving as Additional Director General, CRPF, have been promoted to Special Director General, with their tenures set to continue until February 28, 2029 and October 31, 2030, respectively.
The Border Security Force (BSF) has promoted Shri Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal (IPS: TN, 1994), ADG, to the rank of Special Director General. The appointment is effective until 31 March 2032 or until further notice.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has seen temporary in-situ upgrades of Additional Director posts for Shri Apte Vinayak Prabhakar (IPS: TG, 1994), Shri Manmeet Singh Narang (IPS: MP, 1994), and Shri Anurag Kumar (IPS: AGMUT, 1994) to Special Director roles for a tenure of two years.
Shri Rakesh Aggarwal (IPS: HP, 1994), ADG of NIA, and Ms Anupama Nilekar Chandra (IPS: BH, 1994), ADG of SSB, have received in-situ promotions to the rank of Special Director General. Their appointments are for two-year tenures, temporarily elevating their current positions.
These appointments reinforce leadership in central armed and intelligence services, ensuring operational efficiency and strategic oversight across India’s key security agencies.
