On Friday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) unveiled its fifth list of candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections in 2025, naming Mahender Chaudhary as the party’s candidate from Mehrauli.
This release comes after AAP announced its fourth list on 15 December, which included 38 candidates.
Key leaders like national convener Arvind Kejriwal, who will contest from New Delhi, Chief Minister Atishi from Kalkaji, Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj from Greater Kailash, and Minister Gopal Rai from Babarpur, were all included in the list.
Other candidates from the fourth list included Satyendra Kumar Jain from Shakur Basti, Durgesh Pathak from Rajinder Nagar, Ramesh Pehalwan from Kasturba Nagar, Raghuvinder Shokeen from Nangloi Jat, Som Dutt from Sadar Bazar, Imran Hussain from Ballimaran, and Jarnail Singh from Tilak Nagar.
In a significant development, two new names were added in the 15 December list, with Ramesh Pehalwan fielded from Kasturba Nagar and Pooja Naresh Balyan, wife of BJP leader Naresh Balyan, fielded from Uttam Nagar.
This follows the recent joining of Ramesh Pehalwan and his wife Kusumlata from BJP into AAP on 15 December, in the presence of Arvind Kejriwal.
The party had earlier released its third list on 13 December, naming Tarun Yadav as the candidate for Najafgarh.
On 9 December, AAP had announced its second list, which included significant changes such as dropping 17 sitting MLAs in favor of new candidates.
However, the Aam Aadmi Party re-nominated Manish Sisodia, Rakhi Birla, and former candidate Deepu Chaudhary.
AAP had a strong showing in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, securing 62 out of the 70 seats, while the BJP won only 8 seats.
