AAP Remains Firmly Committed To I.N.D.I.A Alliance, Says Arvind Kejriwal Amidst Punjab Conflict With Congress

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the “I.N.D.I.A” opposition bloc. This statement comes amid tension between the AAP and the Congress party in Punjab following the arrest of MLA Sukhpal Khaira on drug-related charges.

Kejriwal emphasized that the AAP remains dedicated to the alliance within the I.N.D.I.A bloc, despite recent conflicts. He also reiterated the party’s commitment to combating drug addiction.

Sukhpal Khaira’s arrest, linked to a 2015 drug case, has sparked a growing dispute between the AAP and Congress in Punjab. Both parties are part of the I.N.D.I.A alliance, which aims to unite against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in state and national elections.

Reports suggest that Congress leaders in Punjab have accused the AAP of targeting senior Congress members, citing the arrests of former ministers and leaders. The Congress Punjab chief, Amarinder Raja Warring, has criticized the AAP, alleging a “jungle raj” under their rule.

The AAP has denied allegations of political vendetta and claims that Khaira’s arrest is part of the Punjab government’s “zero tolerance policy” against drug smuggling.

As part of their electoral plans, the AAP and Congress were supposed to divide seats in states like Punjab, Delhi, and Gujarat. However, tensions resulting from Khaira’s arrest have put these agreements in jeopardy.

Sukhpal Khaira’s arrest is significant as he has been vocal against an alliance with the AAP in Punjab. He also holds a position in the Congress’ Kisan Cell at the national level.

Congress national leader Mallikarjun Kharge has stated that they won’t tolerate injustice and will investigate the situation further.

Furthermore, Minister Anmol Gagan Mann has claimed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has directed the AAP to contest all 13 seats.

This situation highlights the complex dynamics within the INDIA alliance and the challenges in maintaining political partnerships.
