A Pillar Of Trust In Times Of Crisis, Says Amit Shah As He Praises NDRF On Raising Day

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday extended warm greetings to the personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on the occasion of its Raising Day, hailing the force as a ‘pillar of trust’ that the nation relies upon during times of calamity.

Taking to social media platform X, Shah said the NDRF has played a significant role in realising the Modi government’s resolve to build a disaster-resilient India. He also paid tribute to the personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, saluting their sacrifice for the safety of others.

India observes NDRF Raising Day every year on January 19 to mark the formation of the force.

Established in 2006 under the Disaster Management Act, the NDRF has remained at the forefront of disaster response, carrying out rescue, relief and evacuation operations across the country.

The force currently comprises 16 specialised battalions deployed at 68 strategic locations nationwide.

These strategically located base camps enable rapid mobilisation during emergencies.

The government created the NDRF after major disasters between 1990 and 2004 exposed the need for a professional response force. It enacted the Disaster Management Act in December 2005 and formally constituted the NDRF on January 19, 2006.

Guided by its motto, ‘Aapada Seva Sadaiv Sarvatra’, the NDRF has consistently shown courage, discipline and dedication.

Over the years, the NDRF has expanded its training, expertise and resources to address natural as well as man-made disasters, including chemical, biological and radiological emergencies.

So far, the force has conducted over 12,000 rescue and relief operations, saving more than 1.58 lakh lives, reaffirming its role as a dependable guardian in times of crisis.
