Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condoled the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar. He remembered Patekar for his intensity, individuality and distinctive presence, as well as his immense contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema.
In a post on X, PM Modi said Patekar brought remarkable versatility and creativity to every role and created characters that would be remembered for generations. He recalled the actor’s frank and forthright views, noting that he never hesitated to express what he believed in.
PM Modi said Patekar’s contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema was immense and that his passing had left a deep void. He extended his condolences to the actor’s family, friends and countless admirers, and concluded his message with ‘Om Shanti’.

Nana Patekar, one of Indian cinema’s celebrated performers, died aged 75 in Goa on Thursday.
Manipal Hospital, Goa, confirmed that doctors declared him brought dead. He was found unconscious at his Dona Paula residence and taken to the hospital.
Born Vishwanath Patekar on January 1, 1951, in Maharashtra, Nana Patekar built a career spanning more than four decades. Known for his intense performances and distinctive dialogue delivery, he appeared in films including Gaman, Parinda, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi: The Musical, Ab Tak Chhappan, Raajneeti, Natsamrat and the Welcome franchise.
Patekar made his mark in Marathi cinema and theatre and directed Prahaar: The Final Attack in 1991. He received the Padma Shri in 2013 and won three National Film Awards, besides several other honours.
Beyond cinema, Nana Patekar supported social causes, particularly farmers and families affected by agrarian distress. His contribution to Indian cinema and public life leaves behind a lasting legacy.
