9/11 Anniversary: PM Modi Pays Tribute To Victims, Reaffirms India’s Resolve Against Terrorism

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks, marking the 25th anniversary of the tragedy. He expressed solidarity with the families whose lives were permanently changed by the attacks.

In a post on X, PM Modi said terrorism had claimed countless lives worldwide and reaffirmed India’s commitment to combating the threat. He noted that India, as a victim of cross-border terrorism, had been fighting terrorism for several decades.

“While the threat keeps evolving, our resolve and opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations remain unwavering. We stand in solidarity with all efforts to combat this scourge,” the post further read.

PM Modi shared glimpses of his visit to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in 2014.

The attacks took place on September 11, 2001, when al-Qaida terrorists hijacked four commercial aircraft in the United States. Two planes crashed into New York’s World Trade Centre, destroying the Twin Towers. Another struck the Pentagon near Washington, while the fourth aircraft came down in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew members attempted to overpower the hijackers.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attacks. The tragedy triggered far-reaching consequences, including prolonged military operations and major changes in global security policies.

The 25th anniversary is being observed through memorial ceremonies, wreath-laying events, moments of silence, vigils and readings of victims’ names.

Communities are organising volunteer activities and educational programmes to remember those who lost their lives.
