8 Jawans, Driver Killed In Maoist Attack On Security Vehicle In Chhattisgarh

In a deadly Maoist attack on Monday, eight security personnel and a driver were killed when rebels blew up their vehicle in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. The attack occurred around 2:15 PM as the group was traveling through Kutra in the Bastar region in a Scorpio SUV, police sources confirmed.

This attack comes just days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that security forces are committed to ending Maoism by March 2026. On Sunday, security forces killed four Maoists, including two women, in the Abujhmad region of Chhattisgarh. Automatic weapons, including AK-47s and Self-Loading Rifles, were recovered from the site.

The violence has escalated in the region. Earlier, on Saturday evening, a gunfight broke out between Maoists and security forces in South Abujhmaad. The joint operation resulted in the deaths of four Maoists and a jawan, Head Constable Sannu Karam, from the District Reserve Guard (DRG).

The clash began when security forces were conducting an anti-Maoist operation. After the exchange of fire ended, officials found the bodies of four Maoists and seized weapons from the scene. A search operation is ongoing in the area.

This surge in violence follows Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to Chhattisgarh’s Jagdalpur, where he met with surrendered Maoists. Shah assured them that the government would provide full support for their rehabilitation and encouraged others to follow their example. He emphasized the government’s commitment to uprooting Maoism from the region and providing peaceful alternatives for those involved in armed movements.
