The village of Kondai in Telangana’s Mulugu district, which was entirely submerged on Thursday, was said to be the scene of eight of the 14 fatalities brought on by the severe downpour. The victims’ bodies were found on Friday after being washed away in the swollen Jampanna Vagu creek.
Although it didn’t rain much on Friday, government sources said the death toll could grow if more remains are discovered and flood waters recede. Those who survived in Kondai were fortunate to find a high place to hide out. IAF helicopters sent to the village dropped aid for the residents. Later, NDRF officials relocated them to rehabilitation facilities put up in the administrative center of the Eturnagaram mandal.
