The Parliament of India will host the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan in the Parliament House complex on Monday, bringing together parliamentary leaders from BRICS member and partner countries to discuss institutional cooperation and people-centric development.
The two-day forum, scheduled for October 26 and 27, will focus on strengthening parliamentary institutions and addressing the needs and aspirations of people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the event and meet visiting delegations.
Ahead of the forum, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held a bilateral meeting with a Russian parliamentary delegation led by Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation at international forums and joint efforts to combat terrorism.
Birla welcomed Volodin and his delegation on behalf of the Indian Parliament and the country’s 1.4 billion people. He further highlighted the longstanding ties between India and Russia, built on mutual trust, respect and shared aspirations.
During the meeting, Birla appreciated Russia’s continued support for India’s fight against terrorism. He called for greater international unity and collective action to counter the threat and promote global peace.
Birla noted that India and Russia would mark 80 years of diplomatic relations in 2027. He further said their strategic partnership had continued to strengthen under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Describing the BRICS Parliamentary Forum as an important step in India’s parliamentary diplomacy, Birla said the gathering would provide an opportunity for participating countries to deepen institutional partnerships, advance people-centric development and strengthen cooperation on shared global challenges.
