Ignition Dynamics, a deep-tech startup incubated at the Greenovator Incubation Foundation of NIT Srinagar, has unveiled its first working prototype, the Magnetised Plasma Testbed. \
The system enables controlled studies of plasma using electric and magnetic fields within a laboratory environment.
According to a report by Kashmir Observer, the testbed allows researchers and students to initiate plasma, apply multiple heating techniques, and closely monitor plasma behaviour.
The compact setup replicates key physical processes without the scale or cost of large international facilities.
These experiments carry significance for fusion energy research, a field that relies on precise control of plasma conditions.
The platform also supports practical use cases across electronics, healthcare, advanced coatings, and space propulsion technologies.
Ali Mohammad, Chief Executive Officer of Ignition Dynamics, said the project addresses a fundamental challenge in fusion science.
Fusion systems depend on the ability to heat, confine, and stabilise plasma, he explained.
The testbed demonstrates core approaches used in fusion reactors, including electrical heating, radio-frequency heating, and magnetic field configurations that direct plasma flow.
Mohammad said that working at a smaller scale offers clear advantages.
Researchers can validate concepts, train skilled personnel, and refine designs before deploying them in large, capital-intensive fusion machines.
He added that most advanced testbeds remain confined to major global laboratories, which often concentrate on the final, high-power stage of fusion development.
Ignition Dynamics instead focuses on earlier phases. The startup builds compact, controllable systems that help scientists understand plasma dynamics under applied electricity and magnetism.
Mohammad credited the Greenovator Incubation Foundation at NIT Srinagar for offering mentorship and institutional support.
He said the foundation provided a clear and structured path from concept to company.
The startup aims to evolve into a specialised deep-tech firm developing plasma and accelerator systems for research, industrial, and strategic uses.
Plasma technologies already play a critical role in surface treatment, medical equipment sterilisation, and industrial diagnostics.
The same plasma control principles also underpin semiconductor manufacturing processes such as thin-film deposition, etching, and advanced materials processing.
Mohammad said the company’s work contributes to building indigenous plasma tools for electronics, sensors, and emerging material technologies.
He noted that locating the startup in Kashmir was a deliberate choice.
The region offers strong academic talent and motivation but limited exposure to advanced experimental infrastructure.
Ignition Dynamics seeks to bridge that gap through high-impact technology development.
