Gorakhpur Mayor Backs Cycle Rally To Improve Childhood Cancer Care In UP

Manglesh Kumar Srivastava, Mayor of Gorakhpur, has endorsed a cycle rally aimed at strengthening awareness and treatment of childhood cancer across Uttar Pradesh.

He stated that children diagnosed with cancer can now access treatment at BRD Medical College, reflecting the state government’s efforts to improve early intervention.

Reaffirming the commitment of the administration led by Yogi Adityanath, Srivastava emphasised the importance of recognising early symptoms and seeking timely medical care.

He underlined that awareness remains critical in improving survival outcomes among children.

The Mayor participated in the ‘Cycle for Gold’ campaign, a national initiative launched on World Cancer Day and organised by CanKids.

The rally spans over 12 lakh kilometres across more than 417 cities, engaging around 2,500 cyclists to spread awareness.

Srivastava flagged off the Gorakhpur leg, where participants cycled from BRD Medical College to Gorakhnath Math.

Doctors, students, corporates, and communities joined the event, reinforcing support for children battling cancer.

Poonam Bagai highlighted the need for collective action, stating that community-driven efforts play a crucial role in improving care.

She noted that initiatives include building referral networks, training ASHA workers, and offering financial and social assistance to affected families.

The campaign, which has traversed multiple regions including Mumbai, Goa, and Karwar, demonstrates the power of nationwide participation.

The Gorakhpur rally concluded at the District Magistrate’s office after being jointly flagged off with Principal R.K. Jaiswal.
