PIB Fact Check Flags AI Deepfake Video Linked To Brigadier Neeraj Khajuria

The Government of India’s official fact-checking unit, PIB Fact Check, has flagged a viral video circulating on social media that falsely attributes remarks to Brigadier Neeraj Khajuria in connection with the Pahalgam attack.

In a post shared on the social media platform, the agency clarified that the video is not authentic and has been manipulated using artificial intelligence tools to spread misinformation.

Taking to X, the PIB Fact Check posted, “❌ The video is an AI-generated deepfake being circulated to spread misinformation.”

Highlighting the growing threat of AI-driven misinformation, PIB Fact Check urged users to remain cautious and verify content before sharing. It also provided access to the original footage to counter the false narrative, stating, “➡️ Watch the original, unedited clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaeYKuIOOFY.”

The advisory emphasised that edited and misleading videos are increasingly being used to distort facts and mislead the public.

The fact-checking unit also encouraged citizens to report suspicious or misleading content through official channels.

The alert was shared alongside official handles, including:

• Ministry of Defence,
• HQ IDS India, and
• Ministry of Information and Broadcasting

This reinforces its authenticity and reach.

The development underscores the importance of digital literacy and vigilance. This comes as the use of deepfake technology to manipulate public discourse continues to rise.
