The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit has debunked a viral 62-second video circulating on social media that falsely claims to show an Indian Army soldier criticising the government for neglecting border troops.
The investigation confirmed that the video features an impersonator, not an actual soldier.
Key details such as the mismatched camouflage pattern, incorrect insignia placement and inconsistent audio revealed the clip’s fabrication.
In the video, the speaker attempts to mimic a Bihari Hindi accent but slips into a clear Pakistani Punjabi tone during the final seconds.
This error quickly caught users’ attention, with several social media replies mocking the poor dubbing and exposing the clip’s inconsistencies.
Analysts clearly proved the video was staged by identifying the speaker’s accent, inaccurate uniform, and dubbed background sound.
Officials said that accounts known for spreading propaganda amplified the clip.
During periods of heightened tension between India and Pakistan.
Such disinformation campaigns aim to exploit military sensitivities and erode public trust in national institutions.
These videos use impersonation and emotional language to trigger outrage and spread quickly before verification checks catch up.
Experts warn that misinformation linked to military or border issues spreads faster than ordinary content due to its emotional appeal.
The PIB’s clarification once again highlights the critical role of digital awareness in combating disinformation.
Authorities urge citizens to verify sources and check official confirmations before sharing sensitive or provocative content online.
This latest case highlights a growing trend in online propaganda, where creators use manipulated media to fabricate dissent and weaken public confidence.
They craft fake narratives, especially those involving soldiers, to appear authentic and evoke strong reactions, making them harder to counter once viral.
As digital conflicts between neighbouring nations intensify, verifying truth before amplification remains essential for maintaining trust and national integrity.
