PIB Fact Check Exposes Fake India Post Phishing SMS Scam

PIB Fact Check has uncovered and debunked a phishing SMS campaign that falsely impersonates India Post.

Fraudsters circulate deceptive messages claiming that a parcel remains undelivered and requires urgent address confirmation.

The message urges recipients to click on a suspicious hyperlink.

Authorities report that this tactic has circulated in India since 2024. Incidents intensified during late 2025 and early 2026.

Cybersecurity agencies have documented multiple complaints linked to similar fraudulent schemes.

The official graphic released by PIB Fact Check stamps the word ‘FAKE’ across a sample message.

The example SMS imitates an authentic government notification.

It directs users to a spoofed website bearing the domain ‘indiapost-gov-in.one’.

Investigators confirm that this address does not belong to any legitimate government portal.

Instead, it redirects victims to data-harvesting platforms designed to extract personal and financial information.

Officials emphasise that India Post does not send unsolicited SMS messages containing clickable links for address verification.

The department follows formal tracking and communication protocols. Citizens must verify parcel status only through the official website, indiapost.gov.in.

Cybersecurity analysts warn that clicking on malicious links may expose individuals to identity theft, financial fraud and unauthorised access to sensitive data.

Attackers frequently exploit urgency and fear to manipulate recipients into disclosing confidential details.

PIB Fact Check has urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with suspicious communications.

Users should refrain from sharing personal credentials, one-time passwords or banking information through unverified links.

The government continues to strengthen digital awareness campaigns to counter phishing attempts.

Authorities encourage citizens to report fraudulent messages promptly.

By relying solely on authorised platforms and verified domains, users can mitigate exposure to cybercrime and protect their personal information from exploitation.
