The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check on Tuesday dismissed viral social media claims alleging that the Chinese Army had advanced 60 kilometres into Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Subansiri district. It clarified that the claims were entirely false and urged the public to avoid sharing misleading content that could create unnecessary panic.
In a post on X, PIB Fact Check stated that the widely circulated videos and accompanying claims were unrelated to the India-China border. It confirmed that the visuals originated from unrelated incidents and had been falsely presented as evidence of a Chinese military intrusion into Indian territory.

The fact-checking unit also released a verification video highlighting the misleading posts.
The video displayed ‘FAKE’ stamps over viral social media screenshots. The visuals showed marching groups, crowds, smoke and soldiers.
Officials confirmed the visuals came from unrelated incidents. They said the footage had no link to Arunachal Pradesh or recent border activity.
The clarification followed recent local allegations regarding Chinese infrastructure development and patrol movements near the border. These reports fuelled online speculation and circulated fabricated videos claiming a large-scale incursion into Upper Subansiri district.
The Indian Army also rejected the allegations and categorically stated that reports of a 60-kilometre Chinese intrusion were incorrect.
Officials reaffirmed that the viral claims did not reflect the actual ground situation along the India-China border.
Authorities urged citizens to rely only on verified information issued through official government channels. They urged social media users to verify information before sharing it. Authorities warned that misinformation on national security can cause confusion and public panic.
