The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check has dismissed a viral social media claim alleging an Instagram ban in India from the night of August 25, 2026, calling it completely false.
In a post on X, PIB Fact Check clarified that the Government of India has not announced any decision to ban Instagram.
The agency urged people not to believe or share unverified claims that are circulating widely on social media.

The fact-checking unit advised users to verify information only through official government channels and exercise caution before forwarding sensational posts that could mislead the public.
PIB Fact Check also encouraged citizens to report suspicious images, videos or messages related to the Central Government for verification. It said the agency would examine the content and provide accurate information to help curb the spread of misinformation.
