PIB Fact Check Debunks Deepfake Video Falsely Claiming PM Modi Announced Free Bicycle Scheme

The PIB Fact Check unit has debunked a deepfake video circulating on the Instagram handle ‘mistri_bhau12’ that falsely claims Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a scheme to distribute free bicycles through Aadhaar cards.

The agency confirmed that the video is fabricated and urged citizens not to fall victim to such misleading content.

The official fact-check clarified that neither the Prime Minister nor the Central government has introduced any programme offering free bicycles through Aadhaar-based registration. It stated that the viral video deliberately spreads false information to deceive the public and create confusion.

PIB Fact Check advised people to remain vigilant against fraudulent videos and social media posts that promise free benefits, subsidies or government giveaways without official confirmation. It emphasised that scammers frequently misuse digitally manipulated videos of senior leaders to lend credibility to fake schemes and lure unsuspecting individuals.

The fact-checking agency urged citizens to verify every government announcement only through authorised platforms before sharing or acting upon such claims.

The government announces official welfare schemes only through verified government channels. It does not announce such schemes through unverified social media accounts.

In a post on X, PIB Fact Check categorically stated that the viral claim is completely false and requested users to avoid forwarding the misleading content. It also directed the public to visit the official government portal to obtain authentic information about Central government schemes and welfare programmes.

The government reiterated that public awareness and responsible verification remain the strongest safeguards against online misinformation, deepfake videos and digital fraud targeting citizens.
