Tiger 3 takes centre stage in India's Imax theatres
One of the most eagerly awaited movies of the year is Tiger 3, which stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Emraan Hashmi in important parts. This thrilling thriller, which is slated for release on Diwali in 2023, is gaining attention. Tiger 3 is expected to take up every Imax screen, beating out The Marvels, which is slated to open on November 10. This information comes from a recent story from The Wrap.
There won’t be room for The Marvels or The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes at India’s 23 Imax theatres if rumours about them are to be believed. Instead, they will only show Tiger 3 exclusively.
Produced by Yash Raj Films, Tiger 3 is set in the same cinematic universe as Pathaan and the 2019 action movie War. It is anticipated that Maneesh Sharma’s film will continue Bollywood’s winning trend.
It’s a very different story at the box office in India. In contrast to Hollywood, which typically governs the West, local films are more likely to be the kings and queens of the genre. In 2019, Avengers: Endgame was a notable film that became an enormous hit in India. However, not even the global phenomenon Titanic was able to take the top spot on India’s annual box office statistics.
In 1998, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was all the rage, taking centre stage while Titanic was making waves elsewhere.
Imax recognizes the value of delivering a wider selection of films than just Hollywood blockbusters. The Indian film industry is now more self-sufficient due to the regularity of indigenous productions. This is the same tactic used by AMC to obtain the rights to self-distribute Taylor Swift and Beyoncé’s concert films. It’s not a viable paradigm to rely only on the rare mega-blockbuster like Barbie or Top Gun: Maverick in an industry where Hollywood releases can be erratic.
