Tabu Returns: Chandni Bar Sequel Confirmed for December 2025 Release after 24 Years!

Chandni Bar fans, get ready to rejoice! A sequel to the hard-hitting 2001 drama has been confirmed for release in December 2025. Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, the original film starred Tabu in a memorable role as Mumtaz, a bar dancer navigating the gritty realities of Mumbai.

This time around, the directorial reins are being handed over to Mohan Azad, the original film’s screenwriter and dialogue writer. Making his directorial debut with Chandni Bar 2, Azad’s anticipation is palpable, especially hot on the heels of his first directorial venture, What a Kismat, hitting theaters on March 22, 2024.

While the script for Chandni Bar 2 is nearing completion, details about casting remain tightly under wraps. The press note clarifies that no actors have been officially approached as of yet. The original film boasted a stellar cast including Tabu, Atul Kulkarni, Ananya Khare, and Rajpal Yadav.

Expressing his excitement about the sequel, Mohan Azad said, “The producer of this film R. Mohan had expressed this desire long ago about the sequel of Chandni Bar, about whose story we were very confused. But I am happy that we have written the story of this sequel film in a tremendous manner. And I am sure that we will be able to repeat the same success of Chandni Bar once again in the coming year,” in a press note.
