Bollywood actor Sunny Deol expressed visible frustration with members of the media outside his Juhu residence in Mumbai on Thursday.
Deol, who has been coping with emotional distress over his father Dharmendra’s health, stopped briefly to address the paparazzi before entering his home.
Folding his hands, he expressed disappointment at what he described as an invasion of privacy.
“You have families, parents, and children at home, and yet you are clicking such videos. Aren’t you ashamed?” he said to reporters stationed outside, in a calm yet firm tone.
After delivering his remarks, Deol walked away, declining to respond further.
The actor’s reaction follows widespread criticism over false media reports claiming Dharmendra’s death, which were circulated by several mainstream outlets earlier this week.
The misinformation caused panic and confusion, as condolences poured in from across the film industry and political circles.
Veteran screenwriter Javed Akhtar, who collaborated with Dharmendra on Sholay, was among those who prematurely expressed grief before the news was corrected.
As the Deol family clarified that Dharmendra was alive and responding to treatment, many media houses swiftly deleted the erroneous reports from their social media handles.
The episode drew widespread condemnation for a lack of journalistic responsibility.
Reacting to the situation, actress Hema Malini took to social media on Tuesday, condemning the circulation of false news.
She wrote, “What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and recovering? This is extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy.”
Earlier, Esha Deol, Dharmendra’s daughter, also issued a statement confirming her father’s stability and recovery.
She posted on Instagram, “The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for your prayers for papa’s speedy recovery.”
Following treatment in the hospital, Dharmendra was discharged on Wednesday and is currently recuperating at home under medical supervision.
The family has requested continued privacy as the veteran actor focuses on recovery.
Sunny Deol’s outburst underscores growing concerns about media ethics and sensationalism in entertainment journalism, highlighting the urgent need for restraint, sensitivity, and factual reporting when covering personal matters involving public figures.
