Singer Sonu Nigam recently sent a warning to his followers about a fraudster who was using his name to defraud people and demand money. Mr. Nigam posted several screenshots of a person’s interactions with a fake account that claimed to be a member of his social media team on Facebook.
“My dear family and friends.. Someone’s working very hard to make ‘honest’ Money.. Do have a look.. And beware,” Mr. Nigam penned.
The screenshots show that a lady going by the name of Erica has been contacting Sonu Nigam’s supporters and pretending to be a part of his social media team. “I was told to get in touch with some of his ardent supporters using my team. Okay, you were chosen to speak with him directly as one of the very fortunate few contacted. Orders from Sonu Nigam,” she said in response to a Facebook user.
The con artist further said that they had been chosen for a “special offer” and that Mr. Nigam would be in touch with them to discuss the “offer” in question. The singer’s “charitable causes” were subsequently requested in exchange for money via PayPal by the woman. She requested that they send the first 1,500 initially, and that they follow up with a payment receipt.
Sonu Nigam issued a warning about the con artist as soon as he became aware of it.
Internet users also claimed that they had received identical messages from the “team” of singer Shreya Ghoshal in the comments section of his post. Some people praised Mr. Nigam for raising awareness.
“We obtained it for Shreya Ghoshal as well. Please be cautious of such frauds. I appreciate you bringing it to our attention,” said one user.
It was very kind of Sonujee to share this so that others wouldn’t fall into the same trap. God continue to bless you,” stated another.
