Musician Shankar Mahadevan extends heartfelt congratulations to lyricist and poet Gulzar for his recent accolade, the Jnanpith Award. Taking to Instagram on Monday, Shankar shared a candid snapshot capturing a moment of camaraderie between the two. In the photo, they are engrossed in conversation, both donned in traditional attire – Shankar in a black outfit and Gulzar in a white kurta-pyjama.
Expressing his admiration, Shankar wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to my dearest and the greatest @gulzar_poetry for being awarded the prestigious Gyanpeeth award! I feel so blessed to be able to spend such beautiful creative moments with you !! Love you sir !! @meghnagulzar.”
The 58th Jnanpith Award for the year 2023 has been conferred upon Swami Rambhadracharya for Sanskrit and Shri Gulzar for Urdu, as announced by the selection committee.

Sampooran Singh Kalra, known as Gulzar, has left an indelible mark on Hindi cinema with his unforgettable compositions. Beginning his journey as a lyricist with the film Kabuliwala, starring Balraj Sahni, he has since penned numerous iconic songs and scripts. Additionally, Gulzar has garnered acclaim as a director, helming celebrated feature films such as Maachis, Aandhi, Mausam, Khushboo, Parichay, and Koshish.
His contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu in 2002, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013, the Padma Bhushan in 2004, and multiple National Film Awards.
Established in 1961 by Bharatiya Jnanpith, the Jnanpith Award stands alongside the Sahitya Akademi Awards as one of the highest honors in Indian literature.
