Saurabh Shukla Says ‘Jab Khuli Kitaab’ Explores Real People Facing Uncomfortable Truths

Writer-director Saurabh Shukla has described his forthcoming film Jab Khuli Kitaab as a candid exploration of enduring relationships and hidden emotional truths.

He stated that the narrative addresses layered bonds, suppressed feelings and unresolved tensions with wit and sensitivity.

Shukla explained that the story centres on unfiltered honesty. He said such candour can unsettle lives yet ultimately offer clarity and liberation.

He emphasised that long-standing relationships often carry silent grievances and unexpected tenderness. The film, he noted, uncovers these complexities while finding humour within emotional chaos.

He remarked that the narrative portrays ordinary individuals confronting difficult realities.

Saurabh Shukla expressed hope that audiences would identify with the central characters, Gopal and Anusuya, and feel invested in their journey.

Saurabh described love as flawed yet resilient, capable of enduring even the most testing circumstances.

Ensemble Cast Brings Depth

The film features a distinguished cast led by Pankaj Kapur and Dimple Kapadia. Aparshakti Khurana appears as a young lawyer whose contemporary outlook shapes the narrative’s dynamic.

Supporting performances come from Samir Soni, Nauheed Cyrusi and Manasi Parekh.

Presented by Applause Entertainment in association with Shoestrap Films, the production adapts Shukla’s original stage play of the same title.

The film will premiere exclusively on ZEE5 on March 6, 2026.

The storyline follows Gopal and Anusuya, whose decades-long marriage confronts an unforeseen revelation.

As buried truths surface, the family experiences a surge of conflicting emotions.

The plot interweaves poignancy and humour while examining companionship, forgiveness and the possibility of rediscovering affection after years together.

She highlighted the emotional authenticity and chemistry between the lead actors.
