Salman Khan at 68th Film Fare press conference
The Bhaijaan of Bollywood, yes, it’s none other than Salman Khan has won countless awards however, the actor has recently revealed that he had quite an unfortunate first-time experience at an award function. Speaking at the launch of the 68th Filmfare Awards, Salman Khan opened up about the time when he was nominated for Maine Pyaar Kiya, and the untold story that how he was promised an award. When that didn’t happen, he damn made the organizers cough up five times what he would usually charge for a performance. The actor is all set to host the 68th FilmFare awards.
At the press conference, Salman Khan shared, “I was nominated and then, the Filmfare editor called me to say I will be winning it, and I should come. I went there with my family and the nomination was announced. However, it was Jackie Shroff, who won the award. I was to also perform that night and I was really angry that they lied to me, so I refused to perform. Jackie was damn good but I felt betrayed.”
He said that the editor then offered to pay him a substantial amount but he demanded more and finally zeroed on five times what he offered. Salman Khan laughed that even though the editor forbade him to talk about it, he went ahead and told Juhi Chawla and Akshay Kumar about it.
Sharing more, he said, “I told them I have gotten money, and they should ask for it as well. That was the first time someone paid for a performance. Earlier they would get us to perform by tempting us with awards. Since then, performing has helped us make money.”
During the press conference, the Bhaijaan also spoke about the younger lot of actors and how 90’s charm- Salman. Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn will continue to give their best to make their money.
Moreover, the actor added that for him getting the love and respect of fans was more important. He shared that it was actually awkward to sit SRK when they both won an award.
Further, he said, “There are so many awards at home. My dad has worked for so long. I mean we have used awards as door-stoppers when the hinge broke. And when we did not have enough space, we would give it to others. That’s how life is. For me, I come to award shows, perform and host and leave the rest to the audience. It’s also been so long and I feel the younger generation should get these awards. That’s their journey and it will motivate them.”
