Prabhas starrer Salaar has marked an exceptional entry into the Indian box office, amassing an estimated Rs. 96 crore (Rs. 60 crore share) on its opening day. This places Salaar in the league of top-performing films, ranking as the fourth-highest in terms of opening-day collections in Indian box office history, trailing only Baahubali 2, RRR, and KGF 2, all of which crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark on their debut days.
The film experienced its greatest success in the Telugu states, securing the second-largest opening ever, surpassing Baahubali 2 and closely following RRR. This achievement is noteworthy as it marks the first instance since 2017 that a film has surpassed Baahubali 2’s opening day numbers, a feat previously only achieved by SS Rajamouli. Salaar’s exceptional performance in the Nizam region played a pivotal role, nearly breaking RRR’s first-day record.
In Andhra Pradesh, Salaar’s figures are comparable to Saaho’s, but challenges arise due to the ticket price regulation implemented last year. Despite this, Salaar managed to surpass Prabhas’s previous film, Adipurush, by around 30 per cent in Andhra Pradesh. The stagnation in ticket prices and limited growth in the exhibition sector in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana pose challenges to surpassing records set five years ago.
Beyond the Telugu states, Salaar garnered Rs. 11 crores in Karnataka, ranking as the third-highest opening for a Telugu film, following Baahubali 2 and RRR. In Kerala, Salaar exceeded RRR’s first-day collection with an impressive Rs. 4.75 crore. The Hindi version of the film also had a strong start in the Hindi belt, with most states surpassing Dunki’s collections from the previous day.

In summary, Salaar’s stellar debut positions it as a major player in the Indian box office, showcasing its widespread appeal and impressive performance across regions, with particular prominence in the Telugu states.
