Ranbir Kapoor shared his excitement about playing the role of Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan, calling it a “dream come true” during his appearance at the fourth Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Kapoor acknowledged the challenges of portraying Lord Ram, noting the risk involved due to his existing image as a romantic hero in Bollywood. However, he emphasized that he enjoys taking risks, referencing his recent role in Animal as an example.
Additionally, Ranbir Kapoor discussed his approach to selecting films, stating that his choices are guided by conscience rather than any formula. He explained that each film requires different preparation and feedback from others is crucial in the process. Reflecting on his filmography, he mentioned his favorite movie as Wake Up Sid, and shared insights into his diverse roles.
On his character in Animal, Kapoor revealed that the script initially scared him due to its departure from his romantic hero image. Yet, he embraced the risk, and after watching the film, he was surprised by his performance. Kapoor urged viewers to approach the movie as an emotional father-son story rather than focusing solely on its violent elements.

Looking ahead, Kapoor teased several upcoming projects. He will star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious Love and War and the sequel to Animal, tentatively titled Animal Park. He is also working on the second part of Brahmastra with Ayan Mukherjee. Despite his current success, Kapoor humbly acknowledged his grandfather, Raj Kapoor, who became an actor, director, and producer at 24, a milestone he has yet to reach at 42.
Reflecting on his personal growth, Kapoor remembered his father, Rishi Kapoor, as a hardworking and passionate professional. Kapoor revealed how he learned invaluable lessons assisting his father, something he felt he couldn’t have gained from formal education.
Kapoor’s journey to acting was shaped by fate, as he originally planned to join the army or become a karate coach. He recounted his time studying at the Lee Strasberg School in New York, where he met people from around the world, broadening his cultural perspective. He later assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Black, which he credits as a turning point in his education.
Although Kapoor comes from a privileged background, he emphasized that success in cinema requires continuous hard work. Over the past 30 years, he has read books and watched global films to deepen his craft. His favorite film, Life is Beautiful, continues to inspire him.
Ranbir Kapoor also spoke about his father’s influence on his career choices, mentioning that Rishi Kapoor never imposed decisions on him. He recognized that not all of his films have been successful, but the love from the audience has always been a great motivator. He stressed that failure is a learning opportunity and cited his role in Rocket Singh as a reminder of the importance of taking risks.
He reflected on his roles in Rockstar, Barfi, and Sanju, each of which left a significant impact on him. Kapoor described Rockstar as an unforgettable experience, particularly the time spent with A. R. Rahman. His portrayal in Barfi was inspired by the legacies of Charlie Chaplin and Raj Kapoor, while his role in Sanju was especially meaningful due to his admiration for Sanjay Dutt.
Kapoor’s candid reflections reveal a deep commitment to his craft and an eagerness to embrace challenges in his acting career. As he continues to take risks and experiment with new roles, Kapoor remains one of Bollywood’s most versatile and ambitious actors.
