On the occasion of National Parents’ Day, Priya Dutt, daughter of late Bollywood icons Sunil Dutt and Nargis, took to social media to honour the values her parents instilled in her.
She described their teachings as the most valuable gift, a life rooted in purpose and love.
Priya, who has followed her father’s footsteps into public service, shared a rare black-and-white photo and a short video featuring her parents.
The image captured Sunil Dutt and Nargis in a poised moment, while the video offered a glimpse into their candid interaction, a reminder of their enduring bond.
In her Instagram post, Priya reflected on the deep influence her parents had on her.
“Children are a reflection of their parents,” she began.
She went on to express how she observed them live a life of integrity, compassion, and service.
“They showed me what it means to serve with sincerity, to lead with heart, and to give without needing recognition,” she wrote.
She called them her ‘strength and soft place to land’, and credited their values as her guiding path in life.
“This Parents’ Day, I celebrate the greatest gift they gave me, a life rooted in purpose and love,” she added.
She also shared that she now uses their values as a blueprint to raise her children, hoping to carry forward their legacy.
Parents’ Day, observed annually on the fourth Sunday of July, acknowledges the vital role parents play in shaping future generations. It was officially recognised in 1994 in the United States when then-President Bill Clinton signed a resolution celebrating the role of parents in society.
Sunil Dutt, who passed away in 2005, was more than just a cinematic legend. Known for timeless performances in films like ‘Mother India’ and ‘Mujhe Jeene Do’, he also made a mark as a parliamentarian and Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports.
His dedication to public welfare made him a respected figure in both cinema and politics.
Nargis, remembered for her grace and talent, was equally influential in shaping Indian cinema. She starred in classics and also contributed to social causes, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire.
Priya Dutt’s heartfelt message serves as a reminder of the lasting influence parents can have, not only through words but through actions and values lived every day.
Her tribute touched many, reflecting how the lessons of love and purpose can endure across generations.
