Nirmal Kapoor, Mother Of Boney, Anil And Sanjay Kapoor, Laid To Rest In Mumbai

The Kapoor family bid a heartfelt farewell to Nirmal Kapoor, the matriarch of one of Bollywood’s most prominent film families, on Saturday.

Her last rites took place at the Vile Parle Crematorium, Pawan Hans, in Mumbai, where family, friends, and members of the film fraternity gathered to pay their final respects.

Nirmal, mother to Boney Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, and Reena Marwah, passed away on 2 May at the age of 90 at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for age-related ailments.

Film Industry Pays Tribute

Prominent Bollywood figures joined the Kapoor family in mourning. Karan Johar, Rani Mukerji, Ananya Panday, Anupam Kher, Arbaaz Khan, Fardeen Khan, and Ayan Mukerji were among those seen at the cremation.

In addition, Farhan Akhtar, along with his wife Shibani Dandekar and sister Zoya Akhtar, attended the funeral.

Shyam Kaushal, father of actor Vicky Kaushal, and Neila Devi, widow of late actor Shammi Kapoor, also came to offer condolences.

Family United In Grief

The younger generation of Kapoors, including Sonam Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, and Arjun Kapoor, appeared visibly emotional as they mourned the loss of their beloved grandmother.

Shikhar Pahariya, rumoured to be Janhvi Kapoor’s partner, stood by the family throughout the ceremony, offering steady support during the difficult time.

Prayer Meet Scheduled For 5 May

Following the funeral, the Kapoor family will hold a prayer meeting in honour of Nirmal Kapoor on 5 May at JW Marriott, Juhu, from 5 PM to 6 PM, as announced by Boney Kapoor via his official Instagram account.

A Life Remembered

Nirmal Kapoor had celebrated her 90th birthday in September 2024.

She married the late Surinder Kapoor, a respected film producer and patriarch of the Kapoor film dynasty.

She is survived by her four children and numerous grandchildren, including Arjun Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Harshvardhan Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, and Mohit Marwah.

Dr Santosh Shetty, CEO and Executive Director of Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, confirmed that Nirmal passed away peacefully at around 5:25 PM on Friday.
