Netflix’s Monster Returns With Lizzie Borden Story

Netflix has expanded its hit true-crime anthology Monster with its fourth installment, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, which premiered on September 17, 2026.

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan return with a story built around one of America’s most notorious murder cases.

Ella Beatty leads the series as Lizzie Borden, who faced accusations of killing her father, Andrew Borden, and stepmother, Abby Borden, with an axe in 1892.

A jury acquitted Borden, but the case continued to attract public fascination for more than a century.

The series explores Lizzie’s life inside a restrictive Victorian household and examines the circumstances surrounding the murders.

Vicky Krieps plays Bridget ‘Maggie’ Sullivan, the Borden family’s housekeeper, while Charlie Hunnam portrays Andrew Borden and Rebecca Hall plays Abby Borden. Billie Lourd, Jessica Barden and Joey Pollari also join the cast.

The fourth season also connects Lizzie’s legacy to another infamous female criminal. Sarah Paulson plays Aileen Wuornos, whose story appears in later-period sequences and links the Borden case to a different chapter of true-crime history.

Netflix presents the season as a drama and historical horror anthology, rather than a documentary. The creators dramatize and fictionalize parts of Lizzie’s story while drawing from the historical case.

With eight episodes, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story brings the franchise’s first female central figure to Netflix and revisits a murder mystery that still sparks debate more than 130 years later.
