Mickey Mouse: Walt Disney’s Mascot

Walt Disney, the master illustratrator,filmmaker and entrepreneur changed our world forever. When he brought about Animated characters to life.

These characters became part of our world and shaped many childhoods and continue to do so. Cinderella inspired every girl’s Cinderella moment. Winnie The Pooh was the friend you wanted for life. Mickey Mouse has since its realization become an industry of its own.

Mickey Mouse, created by Walt Disney, was his very first successful character. Mickey has the attribution of human traits and emotions to him. Making him relatable as a small mouse with a falsetto voice.

His first public appearance was in the short film Steamboat Willie (1928). It was one of the first sound cartoons.

Mickey has had a very busy life appearing in 130 films. Though it was the standalone cartoon shorts titles “Mickey Mouse” that remain the most favourite to date.  Ten of Mickey’s cartoons were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film and the short film Lend a Paw even won the award in 1941.Mickey Mouse is no ordinary fictional character. He has had his own  Hollywood Walk of Fame since 1978. The first fictional character to have one.

Mickey Mouse has featured in all Disney products including comic books, films and of course the amusement park, Disney Land.

Mickey Mouse inspired a lot of fashion merchandise and the youngsters today know Mickey if not from his films but surely as the  cartoon character on their favorite t-shirt.

 Mickey Mouse has a connection to the current generation with the Mickey Mouse Club, the social media distributed reality show produced by Disney Digital. When it first came out in the 1950s it was a variety show  which featured teen performers who were mentored to perform some acts. It saw a revival in 2017 in a more reality TV avatar on the Disney OTT platform. The Mickey Mouse Club was rebooted under the name Club Mickey Mouse with a new set of Mouseketeers ( teen performers) in September 2017.  The Mouseketeers were  joined by their mentor on the show,guest star Todrick Hall,  The series was produced by Disney Digital Network and was last aired in 2018.

Mickey Mouse is an industry of its own.As long as there is the Walt Disney universe there will be Mickey in one avatar or the other, the adorable small mouse will slip under the door of life.
