Man Accused Of Attacking Saif Ali Khan Seeks Bail; Calls Case ‘Fictitious’

Mohammed Shariful Islam, a 30-year-old man accused of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Mumbai residence earlier this year, has filed a bail application, calling the case against him ‘fabricated’.

Islam has argued that the First Information Report (FIR) filed in connection with the incident lacks credible proof and is based on an imaginary version of events. He claims there is no factual basis to support the charges.

The court has listed the next hearing for 21 July.

Islam remains in judicial custody at Arthur Road jail. His bail application, submitted through his lawyer Vipul Dushing, insists on his innocence and points out that he has no criminal history.

According to the petition, police have almost finished their investigation, and the only step pending is the submission of the charge sheet. It also mentions that key evidence, such as CCTV footage and call logs, has already been collected by the prosecution.

The plea argues there is no possibility of the accused interfering with the case or influencing any witnesses.

Islam, in his written statement, stated, “The present FIR is nothing but a fictitious story of the complainant. Hence, the accused is seeking bail.”

The application also raises concerns over the legitimacy of the arrest. It cites a violation of Section 47 of the Indian Civil Defence Code (BNSS), which requires that an arrested individual be informed of the reason for arrest and their right to apply for bail.

The matter has been postponed until the next hearing on 21 July.

Details of the January Incident

The incident in question occurred in January. Saif Ali Khan was reportedly stabbed several times after confronting a burglar at around 2:15 AM in his Bandra residence.

The intruder is said to have entered the home and attacked a house help before Saif stepped in.

According to reports, Saif was alerted by noise coming from his son Jeh’s room.

Upon entering, he found the accused engaged in a heated exchange with the house help.

In an attempt to protect his staff, the actor tried to tackle the intruder with his bare hands. He sustained six stab wounds, two of them reportedly close to his spine.
