Mahesh Bhatt Says The Soul Of Aashiqui Lives On In Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara

Renowned filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has described Mohit Suri’s upcoming directorial Saiyaara as ‘the most definitive romantic film of this generation’.

Drawing parallels with his own classic Aashiqui, Bhatt expressed that the emotional heart and purity of Aashiqui live on in Saiyaara.

“Every generation has a love story that defines it,” said Bhatt. “When I made Aashiqui, it connected deeply with people and made two newcomers into stars. I expect Saiyaara to do the same.”

Bhatt praised Suri for carrying forward this emotional legacy with sincerity and fresh intensity. Additionally, he remarked that Saiyaara has the potential to redefine what a romantic film means to a new generation.

“It’s amazing to see people feel the nostalgia of Aashiqui when they watch Saiyaara. But this film will rewrite the rules,” he said, noting that every new generation must go beyond the previous one.

Mahesh Bhatt also shared his excitement at the possibility of Suri, whom he considers his prodigy, surpassing him.

Mohit Suri’s bold new direction

Praising Mohit Suri’s creative leap, Bhatt said Saiyaara is ‘refreshingly different’ from the director’s past work.

“It shows an incredible depth of romance,” he noted, adding that intensity is crucial for audiences to truly connect with the emotion of love.

He also revealed that he had long encouraged Suri to work with newcomers and is glad to see him doing so with Saiyaara.

The film stars Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, both making their debut under Yash Raj Films (YRF).

Bhatt expressed confidence in the debut duo’s on-screen presence.

“They are simply sparkling on the screen,” he said. “The energy of Saiyaara is palpable. It’s like a breath of fresh air.” He also praised YRF’s backing of the project, calling the studio’s involvement a perfect match for the film’s ambition.

Produced by YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani, Saiyaara is set to release in cinemas worldwide on 18 July 2025.

With a fresh cast, passionate storytelling, and the support of seasoned creators, Saiyaara promises to be a milestone in contemporary Indian romance.

As Bhatt summed it up, “I have very high expectations from Saiyaara to soar. I can’t wait for the country to see it.”
