Kevin Costner with Christine Baumgartner
Actor Kevin Costner and his wife Christine Baumgartner have filed for divorce after 18 years of marriage.
As per reports, Baumgartner, 49, has filed for divorce.
Mr. Costner married Christine Baumgartner, the handbag designer and former model in Colorado in September 2004, and the couple has had three children: Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12.
The 68-year-old also has four older children from prior relationships: Annie, Lily, as well as Joe, and Liam.
Costner’s representative requested that the privacy of the actor and his children be respected at this tough time.
In a statement, the spokesperson said, “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action”.
Baumgartner and Costner dated for six years before Baumgartner issued an ultimatum.
“Finally, there came a moment where I thought maybe this is not going forward”, Costner said.
He further said, “I’m not going to lose her because I’m afraid”.
In November, Costner praised his wife, saying, “My wife does things that just completely… It just helps. Because of her, everything is warmer. Because of her, the house is more beautiful. There are these tiny things she does, and I believe it is the power of love, but she makes her home in this way”.
This is Costner’s second marriage, following his 16-year marriage to Cindy Silva, which ended in divorce in 1994.
The ‘Field of Dreams’ actor has played the powerful Montana patriarch John Dutton in ‘Yellowstone’ for five seasons.
Costner earned a Golden Globe for his performance in ‘Yellowstone’ in February this year, following which he made a social media remark to his wife. When they were unable to attend the awards ceremony due to floods near their home, Costner said she helped him celebrate.
