Karan Johar Sells 50% Of Dharma Productions To Adar Poonawalla Following Reported Loss

Karan Johar has sold a 50% stake in his production company, Dharma Productions, to Adar Poonawalla’s Serene Productions. This announcement comes amid speculation about financial difficulties at Dharma, with earlier rumors suggesting a potential deal with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries.

On October 21, both parties released a joint statement confirming the deal. Serene Productions will invest INR 1,000 crore into Dharma Productions and its subsidiary, Dharmatic Entertainment. Following this investment, Karan Johar will retain the remaining 50% ownership and continue as the Executive Chairman. Apoorva Mehta will serve as the Chief Executive Officer, collaborating with Johar to guide the company’s strategic direction and operational management.

This partnership with Adar represents a perfect blend of our emotional storytelling prowess and forward-thinking business strategies.”

Apoorva Mehta highlighted the significance of the collaboration, noting, “This partnership marks a new era where cinema, streaming, and global content converge. It enables us to explore new avenues in content creation and distribution, elevating the Indian entertainment ecosystem.”
