Emergency Trailer
Kangana Ranaut, renowned for her recent role in Tejas, is set to grace the silver screen once again in the upcoming Indian political drama, Emergency. The film, drawing inspiration from real-life events, sees the versatile actress portraying the role of the formidable Indira Gandhi. Having teased fans with the first look poster on January 23, Kangana Ranaut has now offered a deeper glimpse into the 1970s’ Emergency through a compelling video shared on Instagram.
In the footage, the actress unveils montages capturing the tumultuous events of the 1970s’ Emergency, showcasing the riots and bloodshed that defined that era in Indian history. Kangana Ranaut also delivers a powerful line in defense of her character as Prime Minister, asserting, “Mujhe mere desh ko protect karne se koi nahi rok sakta. Kyunki India is Indira and Indira Is India” (No one can stop me from protecting my country because India is Indira and Indira is India).
For those unfamiliar with the historical context, the Emergency was declared under Article 352 of the Constitution during the tenure of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Enforced from June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977, this period witnessed the cancellation of elections and suspension of civil liberties. The controversial move was justified by perceived imminent internal and external threats to the Indian state, leading to significant human rights violations and widespread bloodshed due to riots.
Emergency, set to hit theaters on June 14, promises a gripping narrative intertwined with stellar performances from a cast featuring Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, among others. As the film delves into the historical complexities of a pivotal period in Indian politics, audiences can anticipate a thought-provoking and intense cinematic experience.
