The makers of director Rojin Thomas’s forthcoming horror fantasy thriller ‘Kathanar’, starring Jayasurya and Anushka Shetty, unveiled a striking poster featuring Jayasurya on Sunday, to coincide with the actor’s birthday.
The production banner Sree Gokulam Movies released the poster through its official Instagram page. It was accompanied by the caption, “Not the tale you know, but the one rewritten by time. An epic reborn, for a new era. Happy Birthday Dear Jayasurya — the face of our wild sorcerer, Kathanar @kathanarthemovie”
Anushka Shetty, who plays a pivotal role in the film, also extended birthday wishes to her co-star.
First announced in 2023, the project has generated strong curiosity among film enthusiasts for several reasons.
A major draw has been the filmmakers’ promise to employ cutting-edge technology never before used in Indian cinema.
At the launch, the makers had noted on Instagram, “KATHANAR movie brings technology never before used in Indian cinema. The pre-production work of ‘Kathanar’, a film using Virtual production technology aided by sophisticated workflows like Tech-Viz, Stunt-Viz & Post-Viz has begun. Asset creation process, like full body 3D scans using a 200DSLR camera photogrammetry rig and Vicon-based infrared biped motion capture have already initiated.”
They further highlighted, “Hollywood films Jungle Book and Lion King were the pioneers in using these technology before Kathanar. Now, we are grateful to have an opportunity to bring these technologies used in international cinema to Malayalam cinema through Kathanar. Kathanar will be a global cinema that will integrate the technocrats in our country. The preproduction & principal photography of Kathanar will be completed in a year and will be released in seven languages.”
The makers have already revealed actor Prabhu Deva’s look from the film.
Director Rojin Thomas helms ‘Kathanar’, produced by Gokulam Gopalan with VC Praveen and Baiju Gopalan as co-producers.
Written by R Ramanand, the film features cinematography by Neil D’Cunha and music composed by Rahul Subrahmanian.
