IMDB’s most popular Indian movies of 2022 include Kantara, KGF2, RRR where The Kashmir Files, the only Hindi film on the list!

Indian Movies 2022: The year 2022 will be remembered as a historic bright year for Indian cinema, and probably a year for Bollywood to remember to get its act together.

Southern cinema made a splash pan-India and Kannada, Telugu and Tamil films found favor both nationally and globally.

The popular movie database platform,IMDb has released its list of “Top 10 most popular Indian films of the year”.

Let’s find out which Indian films entertained and amassed a lot of popularity to make it to this prestigious list:

1. RRR

 

 

The film with two Golden Globe nominations certainly deserves the top spot. SS Rajamouli’s RRR found popularity with national and international audiences. A whopping business at the box office and wowed the foreign audience through the digital platform. The RRR experience will be India’s pride and joy for years to come.

2. The Kashmir Files

 

The only Hindi film to feature in this list Vivek Agnihotri Directed film has been based on four years of documented research. Based on the real life events of the 1990s exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir valley. With a stellar cast including Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, the film has been under controversy for revealing an ugly historic truth of the wrongdoings done to the Hindu minority community while the Govt and the world looked away.

A box office success The Kashmir Files is proof that telling the truth pays quite literally.

 3. K.G.F: Chapter 2

Sequel to the earlier Chapter called K.G.F. . This film was Rocky’s story further. This film’s box-office numbers are proof that great content will bring the audience even in the times of OTT. Actor Yash and Director Prashanth Neel classy combo brought back many retro feelings of ’70s films.

4. Vikram

 

Kamal Hassan was seen a film after 2018 under the direction of Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film will surely have many more sequels and spin offs in store. A star studded cast with Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil and Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi, the film wowed audiences from everywhere.

5. Kantara

 

This Kannada film started trending on Twitter for the longest time.  An unexpected superhit. Made by  Rishab Shetty on a small budget, this film was a big hit. Rishab’s cultural extravaganza Kantara also has him in the lead role. Kantara had a regional release but its popularity brought  it to the nation wide audience.

6. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect

 

Starring R Madhavan in the lead role, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, is based on the real life of scientist Nambi Narayanan. Actor R.Madhavan donned the director’s hat for the first time for this film. Released in multiple languages, the film premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival. It even featured Shahrukh Khan in a cameo in the Hindi version of the film.

7. Major

 

Actor Adivi Sesh plays the titular character of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who lost his life during the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. The film is based on his life from his birth till the time he got martyrdom while saving the lives of the citizens of India.

8. Sita Ramam

 

Sita Ramam, a sad love story of star crossed loves Sita and Ramam played by Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur. Another unexpected Telugu hit. The film was dubbed into multiple regional languages only after it saw so much success. It was refreshing to see the good old romantic love story finding favour with the audience again.

 9. Ponniyin Selvan: Part One

Mani Ratnam’s experiential historic extravaganza PS: I as it’s commonly referred to was filled with big star names like Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, Sobhuta Dhulipala among others. Based on  Kalki’s series of novels, a Part Two is in the offing too.

10. 777 Charlie

 

The heart moving story of the beautiful bond between a dog and a lonely factory worker.  Starring Rakshit Shetty, Sangeetha Sringeri among others.Kiranraj K’s film 777 Charlie had a limited theatrical release but the response it generated and the live it received on its digital release made it one of the most touching Kannada films of the year.
