Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has come under fresh fire after a clip showing him speaking fluent English surfaced online.
The video, taken from a recent interaction with Grammy President Harvey Mason Jr, shows Dosanjh speaking confidently in English, contrary to his earlier public persona of limited English proficiency.
Reddit users widely circulated the video, questioning Dosanjh’s authenticity.
One user remarked, “When the Grammy President calls, you can no longer continue your act of not knowing English,” while another commented, “OMG he was acting all along of not knowing English. Such a fake guy.”
The tone of online commentary quickly shifted from amusement to accusation, with some netizens labelling his public image as ‘deceptive’.
The timing of the video’s virality is notable as it follows closely on the heels of the Sardaar Ji 3 controversy.
The film faced criticism for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, just days after India launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation for the terror attack in Pahalgam.
The casting drew strong objections given the sensitive geopolitical climate.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) condemned the casting decision, calling it ‘disrespectful to national sentiment’.
AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta issued a statement urging a nationwide boycott of Sardaar Ji 3 and asking fellow Indian artists to distance themselves from Diljit Dosanjh.
“We request all artists and technicians to avoid working with him across any film or live platform,” the statement read.
Interestingly, the same clip had been appreciated two weeks earlier when it was initially posted, with many praising Diljit’s composure and confidence on a global platform.
Several media reports had even lauded his effort to represent Indian culture internationally through both music and dialogue.
Observers now suggest the video’s reappearance may be part of a coordinated backlash tied to the Sardaar Ji 3 row.
While some fans defended the artist, pointing to selective outrage and online trolling, others remained unconvinced.
As controversy continues to swell, Diljit Dosanjh finds himself at the centre of a national debate that straddles celebrity image, patriotism, and social media optics.
The coming days may determine whether the singer-actor can recover public trust or face prolonged fallout from this multifaceted controversy.
