Buchi Babu Sana Responds To Criticism Over Janhvi Kapoor’s Role In Peddi

Director Buchi Babu Sana has responded to the backlash surrounding the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor in the rural sports action drama ‘Peddi’, starring Ram Charan in the lead role.

The filmmaker apologised to audiences on Saturday and confirmed plans to revise the portions that have drawn criticism.

‘Peddi’, which released in theatres on June 4, opened to an enthusiastic response from fans. Several scenes involving the female lead soon sparked debate among viewers and critics, with many accusing the film of objectifying women.

The romantic track, in particular, faced criticism for allegedly normalising harassment and non-consensual behaviour.

Amid the controversy, Buchi Babu Sana took to X to address the concerns raised by audiences.

“As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously,” he posted.

The director also stressed that it was never the intention of the makers to disrespect women through the film’s narrative or character portrayals.

Expressing regret over the reactions generated by the scenes, Sana reiterated his respect for women and acknowledged the concerns voiced by viewers.

Buchi Babu Sana further revealed that the team had reviewed the feedback and decided to make changes to the concerned portions.

Emphasising the responsibility of storytellers, the director added, “Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities.”

“Every woman deserves to be respected, valued, and represented with dignity. We remain committed to telling stories that celebrate strong characters and uphold those values,” the director added.
