Bipasha Basu considers it a “super hit” as she enjoys her “first holiday” with her daughter. When you learn that, for a new mother… On the third day after I gave birth, I learned that our child was born with two holes in her heart. I had intended to keep this to myself, but I feel that there were many mothers that supported me along the way, and it was really challenging to find those mothers..

Ventricular septal defect

We didn’t even know what a VSD was, she continued. A ventricular septal defect is the cause. We experienced a tumultuous time. We didn’t talk about this with our family because we were both a little bit disoriented. Me and Karan wanted to rejoice, but we were both feeling a little numb.

The first five months have been very difficult for us. But Devi has been fabulous from day one. We were told that every month, we have to do a scan to know if it’s healing on its own. But the kind of large hole that she had, we were told that it was doubtful, you will have to go through surgery. And the surgery is best done, when the child is three-months-old.”

She claimed they experienced disagreement and pressure. “How can you subject a child to open heart surgery? You feel so sorry, so burdened, and so conflicted. People like us who are believers strive to manifest it with our thoughts that it would start mending on its own. Something natural will happen. It didn’t occur in the first month, and it didn’t occur in the second month. And I recall that by the third month, when we went for the scan, I had pretty well completed all of the research, had spoken to surgeons, visited hospitals, and interacted with medical professionals. Karan, however, was not prepared. She had to be alright, and I knew she would be alright. And she’s OK. But the tough decision was to get your child operated at the right place and at the right time,” she added.
