In a bold move, director Anand Tiwari’s latest film, Bad Newz, tackles the unconventional topic of heteropaternal superfecundation, a rare occurrence where a woman bears twins with different fathers. This spiritual sequel to Good Newwz (2019) explores a unique storyline, despite similarities with the Brazilian web series Desperate Lies.
The film follows Saloni (Triptii Dimri), an ambitious chef who finds herself in a complicated pregnancy after unprotected encounters with two men, Akhil (Vicky Kaushal) and Gurbir (Ammy Virk). As the two men vie for her attention and the right to father their respective child, the story delves into themes of male competitiveness, immaturity, and eventual growth.

Notably, the film avoids judging Saloni, instead focusing on the men’s antics and their journey towards understanding fatherhood. Triptii Dimri shines as the lead, bringing freshness and softness to her character. Vicky Kaushal stands out as the loud Punjabi romantic, navigating a character arc from selfishness to wisdom.
While the film’s originality is commendable, it ultimately succumbs to melodrama, introducing familial conflicts and unnecessary drama. Despite this, Bad Newz deserves credit for tackling a rare and unconventional topic in a mainstream Hindi film.
