Asha Bhosle’s Final Journey: Public To Pay Last Respects At Mumbai Residence

Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle’s son, Anand Bhosle, has announced that people will be able to pay their last respects to the singer at her residence in Lower Parel before her final rites.

Addressing the media, he said, “My mother passed away today. People can pay their last respects to her at 11:00 AM tomorrow at Casa Grande, Lower Parel, where she lived. Her last rites will be performed at 4 PM tomorrow at Shivaji Park.”

The arrangements for the singer’s final journey mirror the deep public admiration she commanded over decades. Her last rites will likely take place at Shivaji Park at 4:00 PM on Monday.

Notably, the same venue served for the cremation of her elder sister, Lata Mangeshkar, a Bharat Ratna awardee, in 2022.

Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92 in Mumbai on Sunday after her admission to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday. Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashish Shelar confirmed her passing outside the hospital.

Asha Bhosle began her musical journey with her first playback song in the 1943 Marathi drama Majha Bal. Over the decades, she became one of the most influential voices in Indian cinema, delivering iconic songs such as Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani, Kya Ghazab Karte Ho Ji, O Haseena Zulfonwale Jane Jahan, and Ye Ladka Hay Allah Kaisa Hai Diwana. She recorded songs in around 20 Indian and international languages.

In 2006, she revealed that she had recorded nearly 12,000 songs.

Throughout her illustrious career, she collaborated with leading composers. These included Shankar–Jaikishan, RD Burman, OP Nayyar, Ilaiyaraaja, Bappi Lahiri, and AR Rahman.

Several awards honoured her contributions. These included the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
