AP Dhillon’s appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, a globally renowned event, made headlines for more than just his performance. During his set, the Punjabi singer garnered attention for an unexpected moment when he broke his guitar on stage, sparking criticism from some corners of social media.
In response to the backlash, Dhillon took to Instagram with a post seemingly justifying his actions. Alongside candid snapshots from his Coachella performance, including one capturing the moment before he smashed his guitar, he wrote, “The media is controlled and I’m out of control.”
However, this post only seemed to fuel further criticism. One commenter referenced Dhillon’s tribute to the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala during the performance, suggesting that Moosewala would have respected musical instruments, implying Dhillon’s actions lacked such respect. Another commenter dismissed Dhillon’s caption as “cringe.”
Amidst the backlash, fans expressed disappointment, emphasizing the importance of respecting musical instruments and questioning Dhillon’s behaviour. Some urged him to reflect on his actions and offer an apology, highlighting the perceived decline in his reputation.

AP Dhillon, known for hits like “Excuses,” “Summer High,” and “Brown Mund,” among others, gained further recognition through his docu-series, “AP Dhillon: First Of A Kind,” which premiered on Prime Video last year.
During his Coachella performance, Dhillon and songwriter-rapper Shinda Kahlon paid tribute to Sidhu Moosewala, displaying “Justice for Sidhu Moosewala” on the background screen as they performed their track “Brown Munde.”
