Akshay Kumar’s upcoming project, ‘Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue,’ has ignited a storm of controversy after changing its title from ‘Mission Raniganj: The Great Indian Rescue.’ This alteration coincides with the ongoing debate surrounding the transition from ‘India’ to ‘Bharat’ in various contexts.
The controversy initiated with President Droupadi Murmu’s use of “President of Bharat” instead of ‘India’ in a dinner invitation to G20 delegates. Since then, the internet has been divided, and Akshay Kumar’s film title switch has further fueled the ongoing debate.
On social media platforms, users shared screenshots of Akshay Kumar’s previous posters (now deleted) that used the term ‘India’ instead of ‘Bharat.’ Some questioned the disappearance of these tweets and playfully inquired, “Ye tweet kahan gaya (Where did this tweet go)?”
Others humorously speculated if Akshay Kumar’s next film would also be named ‘Bharat.’
The film faced criticism not only for its altered title but also for apparent editing issues in one of the posters, where faces appeared pasted multiple times.
‘Mission Raniganj’ narrates the story of the late mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill, who led a heroic coal mine rescue mission in Raniganj in November 1989, saving miners trapped inside a flooded coal mine.
The film also stars Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Varun Badola, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rajesh Sharma, Virendra Saxena, Shishir Sharma, Ananth Mahadevan, Jameel Khan, Sudhir Pandey, Bachan Pachera, Mukesh Bhatt, and Omkar Das Manikpur. Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, ‘Mission Raniganj’ is set to release on October 6. Akshay Kumar’s last appearance was in ‘OMG 2’ alongside Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam.
