Adipurush Never Out Of Controversy: Complaint Filed On Poster Of The Movie For The Hurting Religious Sentiments

After the boycott Adipurush row in October, the movie has once again landed in great trouble. The trouble comes in the form of an FIR. A complaint was filed against the makers of the religious movie in Bolly-city Mumbai for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus in the film’s new poster.

According to the media reports, Sanjay Dinanath Tiwari filed a case against the producers, the artist, and the director Om Raut at the Sakinaka police station through the assistance of Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, Mumbai High Court attorneys. The accuser identified himself as a Sanatan Dharma preacher.

The complaint states that “the religious sentiments of the Hindu religion society have been hurt by the filmmaker Om Raut by inappropriately displaying the character of the Hindi religious text Ramcharitmanas in the new poster of the film.”

Lord Shri Ram without Janeu

As per the complaint, the poster shows “Maryadapurushottam Lord Shri Ram in a costume contrary to the natural spirit and nature of Ramcharitmanas mentioned in the Hindu scripture.” The complainant further claimed that Adipurush shows all the characters of Ramayana without ‘Janeu’.

Janeu has special importance in Hindu Sanatan Dharma, which has been followed for many centuries by the followers of Sanatan Dharma on the basis of Puranas.

Adipurush Poster features…

The disputed poster was revealed by the Adipurush filmmakers on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, a festival commemorating the anniversary of Lord Ram’s birth. Prabhas and Sunny are depicted in the new poster holding a bow and arrow while dressed in armour and a dhoti. Devdatta is seen bending down in the service of the three while Kriti is dressed simply in a sari with her head covered.

The multilingual historical saga Adipurush is a screen version of the Hindu epic Ramayana and is marketed as a movie celebrating “the triumph of good over evil.” The movie, in which Prabhas plays Raghav, Kriti Sanon plays Janaki, Sunny Singh plays Shesh, and Devdatta Nage plays Bajrang, has a new release date that was revealed a few days prior. Saif Ali Khan plays the villain Lankesh in the Om Raut-directed movie.

Adipurush’s release in trouble since forever

When the teaser for the magnum opus was released in October, Adipurush courted debate, including calls for boycotts, due to the portrayal of Hindu deities and the poor quality of the visual effects.

Saif’s appearance as the demon ruler, who was seen sporting a beard and buzz cut, was also criticised for the apparent Islamization of Lankesh by the producers.

The movie was originally scheduled to hit theatres on August 11, 2022, but that date was later moved to January 12, 2023. The 3D release of Adipurush is currently set for June 16, 2023.
