Haryana Assembly Results 2024: Key Candidates And Constituency To Watch For

While the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party are the primary contenders, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) also have stakes in these elections. Exit poll predictions suggest that Congress may wrest power from the BJP in Haryana after ten years in opposition.

Garhi Sampla-Kiloi: A High-Profile Contest

Rohtak’s Garhi Sampla-Kiloi assembly constituency stands out as a significant seat in these elections. Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda contests against BJP’s Manju Hooda from this high-profile location. The AAP has fielded Pravin Guskhani. The contest is crucial due to Hooda’s connection; he is a prime contender for the chief ministerial seat if Congress emerges victorious. Hooda won this seat in the 2009, 2014, and 2019 assembly elections.

Ladwa: A Key Battleground

The Ladwa seat in Kurukshetra district is another important constituency as Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is the BJP candidate here. Saini faces Congress candidate Mewa Singh, the current MLA. AAP has nominated Joga Singh. Congress won Ladwa in the 2019 elections, while BJP secured it in 2014. INLD claimed the seat in 2009.

Julana: Star Contestant

Julana, located in Jind district, has generated buzz after Congress fielded Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who has ties to the area. Phogat faces BJP’s Captain Yogesh Bairagi, a former pilot and vice president of Haryana’s BJP youth wing. AAP has nominated former WWE star Kavita Dalal. JJP’s Amarjeet Dhanda won this seat in 2019, while INLD secured it in 2009 and 2014.

Uchana Kalan: Dushyant Chautala’s Stakes

JJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala is contesting from Uchana Kalan in Jind district. Dushyant is the great-grandson of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal. The JJP broke its alliance with the BJP before the polls. Congress has fielded former bureaucrat Brijendra Singh, while AAP’s candidate is Pawan Fauji, and the BJP nominated Devender Attri. Dushyant won this seat in 2019, with BJP’s Prem Lata and INLD’s Om Parkash Chautala winning in 2014 and 2009, respectively.

Gurugram: A Battle in the NCR

Located next to the national capital, Gurugram is another crucial seat in the elections. Congress nominates Mohit Grover, a young candidate who lost in 2019 as an independent. He faces BJP’s Mukesh Sharma and AAP’s Nishant Anand. BJP has won this seat in the past two elections, with Sudhir Singla winning in 2019 and Umesh Aggarwal in 2014.

As the elections unfold, all eyes are on these key constituencies that may shape the political landscape in Haryana.
