According to accounts, when a 911 call was placed, more than 40 emergency vehicles were dispatched to the Walmart store on Battlefield Boulevard.

Virginia State Senator Louise Lucas said on Twitter, “I am absolutely heartbroken that America’s latest mass shooting took place in a Walmart in my district in Chesapeake, Virginia tonight. I will not rest until we find the solutions to end this gun violence epidemic in our country that has taken so many lives.”

Police told reporters that the attack happened at 22:12 local time (03:12 GMT).

Online video purported to be of an eyewitness recounting the incident while wearing a Walmart uniform. He claimed to have exited a staff room when a manager entered and started firing.

The man stated, “Unfortunately, we lost a few of our associates,” adding that he did not know how many of his coworkers had been shot.

According to Leo Kosinski, a spokesman for the police, the shooting is thought to have taken place inside the business, and the suspect acted alone.

Walmart expressed its astonishment at the unfortunate incident and stated that it was “working closely with law enforcement.”

Chesapeake police are anticipated to provide further information later today in the morning according to (EST) Eastern Standard Time.

Five individuals are being treated at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, according to a spokesman who was reported by a local news station.

One woman reported to the media that her brother, a 20-year-old shop employee, had been shot just ten minutes after reporting for duty.

However, she claimed that her sibling was still able to send and receive texts, calling this “comforting.”
