Atul was charged with a non-cognizable offence under IPC section 494 for marrying the two sisters, according to Solapur Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande.
Mumbai: On Friday, news broke about identical twin sisters who are both IT engineers working in Mumbai being married to the same man in Akluj, Maharashtra’s Solapur district. According to reports, the two sisters couldn’t bear the thought of splitting up after marriage and so chose to marry the same man. In response to the sisters’ peculiar request, their family found a suitor who was willing to wed them both.
According to Solapur Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande, Atul was charged with a non-cognizable offence under IPC section 494 for marrying the two sisters.
“Whoever, having a husband or wife living, marries in any case in which such marriage is void because it took place during the life of such husband or wife, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine,” states Section 494 of the IPC.
Earlier, a number of internet users had also brought up the issue of Atul’s union with the Pinky and Rinky sisters.
“Following the death of their father a few days prior, the daughters were staying with their mother. The two sisters and their mother once travelled to the hospital in Atul’s automobile when they were both sick. Atul became close to the two young women at this time, “According to the online Marathi newspaper Maharashtra Times.
On social media, the abovementioned video sparked a discussion about whether the marriage was valid. Police responded to an anonymous allegation and filed a FIR against the groom, but it turned out that was not the reason.
Atul reportedly operates a travel agency in Mumbai and resides in the Malshiras taluka.
After their father passed away from illenes, the sisters Pinky and Rinky most recently relocated to Malshiras with their mother. Later, the mother developed a disease.
The sisters reportedly became close to Atul when he assisted both of them in caring for their mother while she was in the hospital.
When the video of their wedding became viral, someone called the police and reported it. Following this, the police filed a complaint against the groom under IPC section 494 (Marrying again while a husband or wife).
